Portchester A (5pts) - 66 all out (9.3 ov) lost to United Services (21pts) - 95 for 5 (12 ov)
Match report by Paul Hungerford

The A Team lost their second game of the season with a disappointing performance against United Services. Portchester won the toss and elected to bowl first. Travis Sawyer (3 overs for 21) again bowled well first up, conceding just 12 off his first 2 overs, but it was Rob Fackrell (3 overs 25 for 2) who made the breakthrough, taking the first 2 wickets. Paul Hungerford caught the first at mid-off and Brother Lee took a sharp stumping. When Paul (3 overs 23 for 1) came into the attack and claimed the wicket of opener Hurst, with his second ball, caught and bowled, things were looking rosy, with the score on 26 for 3 after 4.2 overs. Portchester B v IBM South Hants - 28.10.07

Portchester B (8pts) - 104 all out (10.2 ov) lost to IBM South Hants (24pts) - 107 for 4 (12 ov)
Match report by Craig Stainton

IBM won the toss and decided to bowl first. Taylor and Nutland opened the batting. Taylor (22) in his usual batting style either missed the ball or scored a boundary! With his dismissal Nutland and Gale added 30 before Nutland retired which left Gale and Stainton to take the score on all was looking good at the 6 over mark with the score at 71 for 1. Then the rot started Stainton (1) caught, Gale (19) caught, Goodson (1) run out by the length of the pitch. Nutland returned but was run out by Young without scoring this time. Young (5) then out with two overs left to bat – final total 104. A very poor effort from the start we had. The team had its first blast from the captain, more was to follow! Portchester A v Purbrook A - 14.10.07

Portchester A (23pts) - 95 for 4 (11.4 ov) beat Purbrook A 91 (7pts) - all out (11.3 ov)
Match report by Paul Hungerford

The A Team won their first match of the season with a close encounter against Purbrook A. The opposition won the toss and elected to bat and were immediately under pressure after a fine start by Travis Sawyer (3 overs for 19) and Craig Coward (3 overs 1 for 16). The early pressure told when G. McKoy took on a risky run to Paul Hungerford whose direct hit accounted for the first wicket of D. Cleeve. The Purbrook innings continued along at around 6 an over, with wickets falling regularly. Steve O’Neill took a couple of good catches and Craig held onto a sharp return catch of his own bowling. Portchester B v Old Hambledonians - 07.10.07

Portchester B (19pts) - 160 for 4 (12 ov) beat Old Hambledonians (9pts) - 110 for 1 (12 ov)
Match report by Paul Hungerford

The B Team got off to a winning start with a fine over Old Hambedonians. Batting first they clocked up a large score of 160 for 4 . That’s a run-rate of 13.33 for any stattos out there, which is only just higher than Dave Taylor’s economy rate on this years Club Tour! Simon Gale (36*), Steve Nutland (31*) and Dave Taylor (25) being the main contributors with the bat.

In reply Old Hambledonians never looked like making the total required and fell 50 runs short. Simon (3 overs 1 for 31), Steve (3 overs for 23) Craig Stainton (3 overs for 27) and Dave (3 overs for 2 8) restricting the opposition.

Only 1 wicket fell in the Old Hambledonians innings, so jut the 1 bowling point was achieved. Still, it was a very good win and start to the season. Josh Young also deserves a mention, who in his debut Indoor game kept and batted very well.

Indoor teams get off to winning starts.

With the Outdoor Season still fresh in the memory, the Indoor Season is already fully into its stride. Both our teams got off to winning starts in their first games. For the full A Team match report see here and for the B Team report see here

New Website

Hello and welcome to the new Portchester Cricket Club website!

A quick guide to the new webiste:

Navigating the website; The website works by using Pages and Categories. Generally the Pages (excluding the Latest News page) are used for important information that will not change frequently, such as Contact details, Seasons Fixtures and Archives. The Latest News page differs in that it will be run as a Blog. Basically all incoming club news will be posted on this page and articles will be chronological, with the most recent article at the top of the page. Categories are used to filter the articles on the Latest News page. So if you know what you want to read, selecting the appropriate category should save you scrolling through the whole lists of posts.

You will notice that comments are enabled on all the Latest News posts (I have taken this function off for all other pages). Please be sensible with what you write. For starters minors will be reading the site and secondly I will be approving all comments before they get published on here. So there is just no point writing anything that can not be published. Please be aware that I can also edit all comments, so remember that before you write!! The Club Forum is still the place for all the chit chat!

The Search and Archive links only refer to posts made in the Latest News page and Categories. Searching for information that is on the other pages will not get any results.

If you have any ideas of how to improve the site, or you have anything such as photographs, match reports etc. that you would like me to upload, please let me know by commenting on here or email me at paulhungers@hotmail.com.
