Portsmouth Community won by 69 runs
Match report by Paul Hungerford
Portsmouth Community won the toss and decided to bat first on a typically dark and cold April night to greet this set Portchester Colts their first competitive match together.
Portsmouth Community started well with a well made innings of 29 by Corbett and were looking good for a big score on 70 of 11 overs. However a spirited fielding and bowling display restricted Portsmouth Community to 94 of their 18 overs. George Summers (1 over 4 for 2 wickets) and Matt Crouch (2 overs 1 for) bowled well at the end. There were also some fine catches by Matt in the slips and also K.Johnson (who Portsmouth Community kindly let field for us to make up the numbers). With the match reduced to 18 overs a side because of the bad light, 94 looked a competitive total but the team did well in their first ever outing, bowling straight and fielding well.
In reply we could only manage 25 for 6 with the inexperience of the team showing, particularly with running between the wickets. Ash Zee top scored with 7 and Daniel Rayson and George did well at the end facing Portsmouth Community’s quickest bowler as the light began to fade. We clearly fell way short but everybody went away feeling positive that the team could do well particularly with the standard of bowling & fielding on display and the effort, which could not be faulted.
Thanks to all everyone who turned up to support the Colts and to Portsmouth Community for their help on the evening.
