Regional Division 4 South East League Match played at Drayton Park

Portchester III (10pts) 169 for 5 lost to Portsmouth Community (20pts) 175 all out

Portsmouth Community won by 6 runs

Match report by Ian Docker

After 3 matches at Gosport. “Davy’s on the Road again”.

On arrival at Drayton Park we were welcomed with the sight of England u-19’s Learning difficulties squad training ahead of their match at Warwickshire on Sunday. 2 of these players were to play a prominent role in this game.

To ensure consistency skipper lost the toss again.
Portsmouth made a good start. John Biggs was the “Joy bringer” bagging two early wickets in a straight through 12 over spell finishing with 3 for 32. After “Questions” had been asked his non bowling against Hamble, John Buckle bowled a fine spell 9 over spell taking 3 for 16. He could also have had a C & B but was probably “Blinded by the Light”. Rick Harding taking 3 for 55 and Ian Docker 1 for 31, both taking some hammer from “Demolition Man” Gavin Randall who top scored with 90 in a total of 175 all out.

After tea skipper gave out the batting order “5-4-3-2-1″
Mike Osmond opened and with some sprightly running between the wickets moved the score along. A Portsmouth fielder was heard to say “throw the ball in to the old mans end”, next ball Tom Adams was run out. Mike top scored with 69, coming off looking like a “Pink Flamingo”, I know its supposed to be Pretty but not in your wildest dreams could you describe him as pretty.

Stu Bogg and Scott Elston both scored 25. However the loss of 3 quick wickets in 3 overs for just 9 runs left the skipper and John Biggs just 7 runs short. 169 for 5 a gallant effort.

Thanks to local heroes Manfred Mann for the song titles, a Turk town and Southsea band with a Saffer thrown in.

Mr Pitcher, ‘Admins’ fault I’m afraid, nothing to do with The Judge. I try to work out the points for the matches when I add the Match Reports. For the 1st and 2nds the results are usually on the Hampshire League website on the Sunday morning. Not so with the 3rds – hence how I got it wrong.

As it’s so important to you, why don’t you email me the points through for the Sunday morning after the match? By the way Ian normally gets his Match Reports to my by about 8am, so you’d better get up early!!

OK POINT TAKEN BUT I TELL YOU ON SAT NITE HOW WE GET ON. SO I SUPPOSE I COULD E-MAIL YOU ON SUNDAY MORNING WHEN I GET UP OR SAT NITE WHEN IM DRUNK YOUR CHOICE

SUNDAY MORNING IT IS THEN PITCH!! ;)

Dave, you do tell us (repeatedly!) and I do get the scores from Ian. I do not ever recall you telling me the points though? I simply work them out, but sometimes get it wrong – the batting points for SE Division 4 is different to County 1. That’s why I had both teams a point less than they should have had.

I will be more careful next time just for you! Although I won’t have to will I because you are going to email me the points. Make sure you are up nice and early Sunday morning – you wouldn’t want me to get them intentionally wrong when I add Ian’s report at 9am would you?!

I shouldn’t worry about the points debate. Dave was going to declare the other week when we were 49 for no wicket as he thought you started with seven batting points and started losing them from 50 onwards!
