Rhett Macdonald joins Portchester CC

Rhett with Brett LeeThe Club is please to announce that Rhett Macdonald will be our overseas player for this season.
Rhett is 18, originally from Zimbabwe and comes to us highly rated from Australia, having played in the same competition as Micky Q this season.

Rhett arrives in England on Thursday 24th April, just in time for the first friendly match on the Saturday against Fareham & Crofton.

Below is an extract from Rhett’s CV, outlining some information about him from his cricket experience to his favourite past-times.

Rhett Macdonald

I played for the 1st team Cricket all three senior years and was Vice Captain in the third year. Hockey was also a sport I enjoyed and I captained the 1st hockey team and played for Limpopo U19 Provincial (county) team.

After Matriculating in December 2006, I travelled to Australia where I spent 3 months attending the Steve Chapman Cricket Coaching Academy. I was fortunate enough to be able to return to this Academy for a second season, this time for a full six months. During my time at the Academy I would like to think I have become an attacking leg spin bowler and a decent middle order batsman. I enjoy fielding everywhere and strive to inspire bowlers and other fielders with my efforts in the field.

While I was at the Academy I played for Dandenong West CC, where I worked my way up from the 3rd to the 1st team. Both seasons I played, I was in the team that reached the Semi Finals of the Dandenong District Cricket Association. I managed to attain my ACB Level 1 Coaching Certificate. I hope to pass the ECB Level 2 while in England this summer and eventually my Level 3.

On the field I always try to have fun while being as competitive and passionate as I can. I am not very easily put down and always look for the upside of a situation.

Off the field my hobbies are pretty much anything to do with outdoor sports and adventure activities. When I lived in Zimbabwe I always enjoyed travelling up to Victoria Falls to camp, go fishing and raft along the Zambezi River. I have enjoyed travelling to see new places and as I have never been to England before I am eager to go and see any places of interest that there is time to go and see . I would love to be able to watch a game at Lords, The Rosebowl or The Oval as I would love to experience the atmosphere.

Pre Season Working Parties

pccneedsyou.jpg

Just to remind you all that every Saturday morning until the season starts, we are having Working Parties at the School to get the pitch, outfield, surrounds and pavilion up to scratch for the new season. The first couple of weeks have been spent preparing the square and clearing the undergrowth / cutting back the tree line at the bottom of the field. But there is still a lot more work required, such as:

Painting the Pavilion - Inside and out
General works on the nets
Continued work on the tree line and undergrowth
Continued work on the outfield
Continued work on the Square.

The Working Parties start at 9:30am. If you can spare a few hours on the Saturday morning please come down and help before nets start at 12pm. The more the merrier, and the more help we get the better the facilities will be for the start of the season.

Wear good footwear and gloves and please bring along any tools that may help.

Scorer Needed for this Season

scorerposter.jpg

As with the Colts Poster, you may have already
been emailed the Scorer Poster to the left.

If you can, please take the time to print some
off and pin up around the Portchester area.

With the Hampshire League clamping down on
Clubs who regularly fail to provide scores and
looking favourably on those who do, it is very
important that we find a Scorer, particularly
for the First Team for this season.
