Portchester U13s (19pts) 100 for 1 (10.5 ov) beat Sarisbury U13s (5pts) 99 for 2 (12 ov)

The U13s celebrated their first Indoor win of the season with a fine win against Sarisbury. With some good recent performances, a win looked to be just round the corner – well down boys!

Batting first Sarisbury scored a competitive 99 for 2. Ash Zee was the pick of our bowlers, with excellent figures of 3 overs, 1 for only 11 runs, Harry Robbins took the catch of Ash’s bowling. Harry also bowled well and took a fine caught & bowled for the other wicket (3 overs, 1 for 21). A disappointing 47 extras helped Sarisbury towards their final total. G. Barker was their top scorer with 22*.

In reply Ash and Harry again started well, and have formed a very good partnership at the top of the innings. Harry retired quickly for 22*, whilst Ash, who was captaining for the first time, played a responsible innings, seeing us home with a patient 12*. Danny Marenghi knocked the ball around well for a quick 12* as well. Just like us, Sarisbury were also guilty of giving away a load of extras (47), which helped to see us home with an over to spare.

Portchester U13s v Havant U13s – 30.11.08

Havant U13s won by 19 runs

Batting: A Zee 26, H. Robbins 15, S Falconer 13

Havant batted first making scoring a total of 113. This total included the Havant top 3 all retiring and unfortunately Portchester were unable to take a wicket. Ash Zee (3 overs for 22) bowled with great control and Sam Stainton (3 overs for 25) with good pace and aggression. More of the same please lads. Sam was unlucky not to get a breakthrough with a very faint tickle going through to the keeper, Stephen Falconer (making his indoor debut) who was unable to cling onto it.

In reply the openers started very well. Ash Zee in fine form playing powerful drives and Harry Robbins (15) finding the gaps got the inning off to a flyer. Sadly, Harry was run out for 15. The other batters were unable to support Ash’s fluent innings (he retired and came back to score 26), with the exception of the debutant Stephen (13) who batted well (including showing off his new found front foot drive). Portchester fell short in the end by 19 runs, bowled out with 4 balls remaining.

Our final score of 94 all out does not show how close it was during the middle section of the game, which against an excellent side like Havant is a performance to be proud of.

An exciting game saw the U13s tie this week. They bowled and fielded well with Harry and Ash the pick of the bowlers to restrict Purbrook to 89. In reply we got off to a good start with Harry retiring for the 3rd time in a row, receiving good support from Ash (17). At the halfway stage we were well in front of the asking rate. Unfortunately though Sam (13*) was starved of the strike at the end and we finished level with Purbrook’s score on 89 for 3.

A promising result though, hopefully that first win will be quick in coming!
